Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh

The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) was founded in the 17th century as a physic garden. Now it extends over four Gardens boasting a rich living collection of plants, and is a world-renowned centre for plant science and education.

Without plants, there would be no life on earth. RBGE has been growing and studying plants for nearly 350 years, and so is perfectly placed to help document and conserve the world's diversity of plantlife.

The RBGE is a people-focused organisation. Core activities are diverse, and benefit hundreds of thousands of people here in Scotland through the provision of visitor attractions, education programmes and conservation work. RBGE increase access for wide audiences to horticulture, science, arts and heritage, whilst working to conserve Scotland's precious natural assets.

Funding from players provides key support to sustain valuable projects such as the Edible Garden. This is a community-focused project that promotes growing and eating healthy food, with a team of volunteers who provide support and mentoring for people to grow their own vegetables, salads and fruits but lack basic horticultural skills. The Demonstration Garden at the Botanics has been transformed into a number of vegetable plots and fruit-growing areas for practical gardening experience.
