National Museum Wales

National Museum Wales (Amgueddfa Cymru) create living museums where the collections tell their stories clearly. Visitors are invited to experience life in the past and present and explore a variety of possible futures.

One of the main priorities of National Museum Wales is to develop flourishing collections that are well used, sustained and growing.

Experts at National Museum Wales aim to offer equal access to the collections for the diversity of people who have made Wales their home. They also use a variety of media forms to encourage innovative forms of learning.

The organisation has a number of sites across Wales:

  • National Museum Cardiff
  • St Fagans National History Museum
  • Big Pit National Coal Museum
  • National Wool Museum
  • National Roman Legion Museum
  • National Slate Museum
  • National Waterfront Museum

With support from players of People's Postcode Lottery, the organisation is able to change the way it engages with the people of Wales through its learning and outreach programme. The charity will provide participants, particularly children and young people at risk of exclusion from formal education, with new skills, self-confidence and experiences that will raise their aspirations and help them seek further education and employment opportunities. They will work with 200 external organisations to broaden their volunteer base and create volunteering opportunities in all aspects of the Museum's work.
