Grandparents Plus

Grandparents Plus is the national charity which champions the vital role of grandparents and the wider family in children's lives – especially when they take on the caring role in difficult family circumstances and when they have lost contact with children. They do this because they want to make children's lives better.

Around 200,000 children are being raised by family members, or kinship carers. This happens because the parents are unable to look after them, most commonly due to parental drug and alcohol misuse, ill health, imprisonment, and death.

Kinship children have often suffered trauma and neglect. Despite the complex needs of these children and the financial, practical, and emotional strain for family members who step in to care for them, kinship carers are too often invisible, unsupported, and isolated. 

This support from the players of People's Postcode Lottery will enable Grandparents Plus to reach more kinship carers, and through their advice service, help them find the support they need.
