Ellen MacArthur Foundation

From stalling growth to plastic pollution, some of today's most challenging problems can be traced to a root cause: an outdated, take-make-dispose, linear economy. The Ellen MacArthur Foundation works to quantify the economic opportunities of a more circular model and to develop approaches for capturing its value.

A circular economy tackles the root cause of these shortcomings, creating benefits for society and the environment. Run on renewable energy, the circular economy model is based on three principles:

• Design out waste and pollution
• Keep products and materials in use
• Regenerate natural systems

The New Plastics Economy initiative, led by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, is bringing together more than 40 organisations across the industry to build a system that works.

Players of People's Postcode Lottery are supporting the Ellen MacArthur Foundation to apply this successful approach to transforming food systems, and to strengthen its education, research and communication work on the opportunities of a circular economy.
