Postcode Justice Trust

Amnesty International UK

Amnesty International UK works to protect women, men and children wherever justice, freedom, truth, and dignity are denied.

Amnesty International UK investigates and exposes abuses, educates and mobilises the public, and helps transform societies to create a safer, more just world.

In October 1960, a young barrister got on the London Underground, opened his paper and read a short article about a couple of students in Portugal who had been imprisoned for seven years after raising their glasses in a toast to freedom.

This sounds uneventful, but it was to become one of the most significant moments in the global movement for human rights. That barrister was called Peter Benenson, and his outrage at the imprisonment of the two men led to the birth of Amnesty International.

Now, over 50 years and a Nobel Peace Prize later, Amnesty International continues to campaign for justice wherever it has been denied. The charity protects people, defending their right to freedom, to truth, and to dignity so that one day the dream of human rights for all becomes a reality

Player support has empowered thousands of young people in the UK to learn about their human rights and hundreds of football clubs to create more welcoming environments for refugees and people seeking asylum. The charity has stood in solidarity with hundreds of human right defenders in the UK and around the world while they fight for the rights that so many of us take for granted.
